The Nook works on a simple principle: cats need more than one type of space, and they rarely want to travel far between them.
The enclosed interior — dark, quiet, lined with a removable soft cushion — is the retreat. The cushioned top platform is the observation point. One piece of furniture, two entirely different environments, in a 41 × 30cm footprint. Most cats establish a preference for one and use the other when the mood shifts.
The two sisal scratch pads are mounted on the exterior sides and lift away for cleaning or replacement. They are where the scratching goes. The interior cushion is separately removable and washable. In a piece that cats will use daily, the ability to clean both contact surfaces independently is more practical than it sounds.
The MDF board frame is heavier than its size suggests — which is the point. At 6.5kg the Nook stays in position during energetic use without needing to be wedged against a wall. The grey finish is deliberately plain, coordinating with almost any interior without imposing on it.
